Living and playing
The carpenter Helgi Jonsson built the house by Thingholtsstraeti 9 in 1846 and lived there with his family. His sons Jonas and Helgi took an active part in the music scene in Reykjavik and founded for example The Harp choir and The trumpet association of Reykjavik. The exhibition does good justice to the brothers, as well as Gudrun Danielsdottir, a teacher who lived in the house for nearly 60 years, longer than anybody else. In this little house they also had girl dances which very lively. The visitors will be able to learn more about these girl dances but they also held chief dances, labour dances, school dances and the royal dance in 1874.
