Mission Statement

The Reykjavík City Museum collects and conserves objects from Reykjavík cultural history and carries out research on them, and promulgates knowledge of the history and living conditions of the people of Reykjavík from the Settlement Age to the present day. The objective of the Museum’s work is to enhance interest, understanding and respect for the history of Reykjavík, and to ensure that everyone has access to the city’s cultural heritage.

Skúli Magnússon og Viðey - 12. maí 2012 | 09.05.2012

Þann 12. desember síðastliðinn voru 300 ár liðin frá fæðingu Skúla Magnússonar landfógeta. Af því tilefni er við hæfi að bregða upp svipmyndum af Skúla, verkum hans og samtíð, í því húsi sem hann lét reisa sem embættisbústað og flutti inn í með fjölskyldu sinni haustið 1755.

Húsverndarstofa stendur fyrir málþingi um viðhald og endurbætur eldri húsa. 16. mars kl. 14:00 í Árbæjarsafni Öll hús þarfnast viðgerðar og viðhalds. Að gera upp hús er fag og krefst ígrundunar.
